Maize (corn) was first documented in mash production in 1620 in Charles City, VA after John Smythe sent a distiller to Berkeley Plantation. The discovery that maize could be converted by English Barley Malt for alcoholic brews led to the spirit that would later become known as the Father of Bourbon whiskey. This bottle presents 8 Shires colonial recreation following Smythe’s original 1620’s production of whiskey. (417)

8 Shires Coloniale Distillery is currently the only distillery using heritage Indian corn as base for its American Colonial wheat style bourbon.
